Jesus
Reinstates Peter
15) When
they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you
love me more than these?” “Yes,
Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”Jesus said,
“Feed my lambs.”16) Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
17 )The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
Basic question of Jesus: "You love Me?" It's right there for you who is reading this message, "You love Me?" Respond in your heart, or better, with your heart ...
Following the path of Jesus here on earth, we see His great miracles and wonders, and of course his great love for us through His teachings, Jesus chose Peter to feed His sheep, then Peter, the same Peter who shortly before the death of Jesus and your resurrection, betrayed Jesus; When he denied Jesus three times, If Peter denied Jesus three times, then why Jesus chose to feed His sheep? <1 Samuel 16:7> 7) But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” If it were any of us, to give the verdict, surely many would not choose Peter to feed the sheep, I say this considering the ego of the human being ever find that only he is the perfect and owner of reason, which is always better than their neighbors, and this does not need a doctorate to know! Moreover, human beings have always forgets of his Creator when things are going well, and responds by yourself the way it looks better and that not prejudicial for him.
Returning to the text, Jesus saw in Peter a sample of mature man in faith, a man who had his mistakes, but he recognized his position of dependence on Him(Jesus) only Him, who reached the point to say, <John 6:68> 68) Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
Peter erred by denying Jesus three times, but, Jesus had already told Peter "Today you will deny me three times," It is as if Jesus spoke to Peter "Hi Peter, look, you are not ready, your love still is not enough to build My Church "; But Peter insisted" No Jesus I love you more than anything, more than the others, and I will not deny you, I will never deny you. " And happened, Peter trusted in himself instead of listening to the voice of Jesus, and so betrayed Jesus. When Peter came to himself, he saw that he had made the biggest mistake of his life, he denied the person that loved most, Jesus, and the word tells us that he wept bitterly. This cry, was not a simply cry of Peter, this was the true cry of a genuine repentance, where Peter looked within himself and it was as if he said to himself, "Jesus does not deserve my betrayal, He has always been true and faithful me, always helped me, If He give me one more chance I will not disappoint you. " And Jesus knows our deepest thoughts, appeared again to his disciples, only this time risen and glorified nor his disciples recognized him at the time, acknowledged after a while, and again Jesus encounters Peter. Then Jesus asks, "Do you love me?" And Peter answered, "Thou knowest that I love you," and followed twice and the third time that Jesus asked him, "Do you love me?" Peter replied saddened "You know everything, You know that I love you truly"; Jesus at this time not only read the lips of Peter speaking, but also looked into the heart of Peter, and saw truth in his words, he saw a man transformed, and Jesus said, "Feed my sheep" or in other words, "Now! You really changed huh Peter! you truly love Me, and now I trust my sheep at in your hands, because I know you will take good care of them .
My brothers, how many times in our lives we act like the old Peter, we think that we love Jesus enough for us not deny him, and in fact our heart just wants money and not the growth of the kingdom, we say with our lips but not with our heart, and maybe even until deny Jesus more that three times, or some of us until to have betrayed Jesus like Judas made; Understand one thing, Jesus has a great and immense love for us, and He wants us to trust in his work but He wants of us attitude change, He wants genuine repentance, He wants a broken heart, a heart true that is only of Him, He wants to see truth in us, both in our words and in our actions, and that starting from this moment their response to Jesus will be with heart and not lip service, and that when Jesus ask you, "Do you love me?" you say, "Yes Lord, I love you! Thou knowest that I love thee! And there is no other in my life besides Thee, Thou art the only King."
Amen!
